Laser Removal of SMP is the safest, most effective method for the removal and correction of Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP). Scalp Micropigmentation removal is more closely linked to permanent make-up removal, than tattoo removal. Tattoo artists generally use traditional inks which do not contain titanium oxide. Scalp micro pigmentation is generally done with Permanent makeup pigments which contain Titanium. Having said this, there is a trend where carbon pigments are used to do this work. This is generally good news from a removal point of view.
The use of titanium in pigments makes this sort of removal different from traditional tattoo removal. Titanium reacts differently under the laser and whilst this is not a problem for an experienced technician, it does mean that a different skill set is required. The size of titanium molecules also means that specialised lasers are needed to make this treatment as safe and gentle as possible
The good news is, is that we specialise in Scalp Micropigmentation removal and are able to remove, correct, or fade all, or just part of a Scalp Micropigmentation procedure, from just one dot to an entire head.
The goal of SMP isn’t to create hair-like lines/strokes, but instead to use tiny, layered dots in different hues of black ink to replicate the look of a shadow on your scalp. This style is referred to as pointillism and is done to create natural-looking depth and definition.
There are many reasons for wanting SMP removal: Some because they’ve had a bad procedure and it’s the wrong shape. Some because it’s too dark, and they want it faded. Some because the ink is too deep and has caused the ink to blow out and some because it looks like a helmet. We have also seen some cases where there has been inconsistent colour implantation.
With this in mind whether all the ink needs to be fully removed, or whether a few hair follicles need removing to correct a mistake, we can do this for you!
How does it work?
Using a Q Switched ND YAG laser we are able to safely remove most scalp micropigmentation. The laser shatters the pigment particles, which then allows your lymphatic system, circulatory system and white blood cells to remove the particles from the area; this is why the gap between sessions is so important! To get the best results you must give your body time to do what it does best.
How many sessions will I need?
In most cases SMP is relatively simple to remove, you should expect 2 or 3 sessions with an 8-10 week gap in between each session. Of course, there are always exceptions to the rule so it is wise to consider that you may need more sessions, depending on skin tone, pigment depth and quality of ink.
Can I have SMP correction after laser?
Absolutely! As long as you give your body time to heal from the laser before you add new pigment (normally 8 weeks).
Will it damage the remaining hair?
In most cases no! Directly after treatment, you may find the hair turns white, but it will regrow. In some cases, you may be asked to shave but generally, we can work through the hair.
How much will it cost?
Prices for Laser Removal of Scalp Micropigmentation are on a case-by-case basis and depend upon the size of the area. The prices start from £100 per session for a very small area, £100-£150 for a Hairline adjustment, and £250 for an entire scalp, subject to consultation.
Do I need a consultation?
Before any Scalp Micropigmentation Removal treatment can begin, a consultation must be carried out to determine whether full removal, fading, or correction is required, it will also give us a chance to discuss the procedure, advise on costs and treatment times, and answer any questions you may have. A patch test will be performed to determine the correct starting settings and wavelengths and, assuming you would like to proceed, you can then have your treatment 1-2 weeks later. Thereafter, treatments would normally be carried out about 8-10 weeks.
