Did I just hear right…

You use tanning injections?
You use nasal tanning spray?

Believe it or not these conversations are happening more and more in the clinic. I am shocked that this is even a thing! What happened to Dove’s gradual tan?

This is a very quick blog from me. One that is super important and something that I just had to write about. I am speaking to more and more potential clients who are using these products and I find it mind blowing that people are willing to risk their lives for a tan.

Under further investigation the active ingredient in these tanning injections is usually Melanotan. A synthetic hormone designed to stimulate pigment cells to produce melanin. This is the substance that makes the skin look darker. Melanotan is made in different forms, such as a tanning nasal spray, but it is most commonly sold as an injection.

Although it is available to purchase online, Melanotan is illegal, untested, and unregulated.

It has not been tested for safety, quality, or effectiveness so we don’t know how serious any possible side effects could be. Due to them not being regulated, unlicensed Melanotan injections could contain other harmful chemicals that aren’t listed on their label. As well as side effects and possible health damage from the hormone itself, users could be putting themselves at risk of injecting harmful bacteria into their system.

As Melanotan is unregulated, there haven’t been any studies to show how long it lasts in the body. For this reason, if you have ever had a melatonin injection, used a tanning nasal spray, or tanning drops under your tongue, I’m afraid you will be permanently contraindicated from all laser treatments with us and that means we will NEVER be able to treat you.

If you want to experience any kind of laser with us you must stay away from the different forms of Melanotan and please remember no tan is worth risking your health for.

Please stay safe and embrace your natural beauty. No tan is better than dangerous tan.
